Description
Trifolium alexandrinum, known as berseem clover or Egyptian clover, is a fast-growing, annual legume. Originating in the Mediterranean and Middle East, it is widely cultivated globally. The plant reaches a height of 45 to 75 cm with an erect, sparsely hairy stem and a shallow taproot. Its leaves are composed of three slender leaflets, and the flowers are creamy white, forming dense, elliptical heads.
This species is primarily used in agriculture for its ability to enrich soil through nitrogen fixation and its value as a highly digestible, non-bloating forage for livestock. It is often utilized as a cover crop to improve soil fertility and suppress weeds, and can be cut multiple times in a single season for hay or green feed.
