Erythrina lysistemon – Common Coral Tree

Description

A medium-sized, dry deciduous tree to about 12 m tall, native to bushland, woodland and thickets in southeastern Africa. It makes a wonderful ornamental for warm temperate and tropical areas and is particularly stunning when covered with masses of scarlet, beak-shaped flowers during its leafless stage in winter. Seeds should be soaked in warm water for a day before planting.
