Additional notes
Combination of seed coat scarification and 24-hour water soaking is recommended for best germination results. Seeds require darkness for germination
Substrate & Container
Recommended substrate
Light, porous, pathogen-free seed germination substrate or sterile potting mix with good drainage
Recommended container
Deep-cell seedling containers or individual seed pots with drainage holes to accommodate long root systems
Growing Tips
For optimal germination: scarify seeds mechanically (light nicking with sandpaper or nail clippers) or use hot water treatment, then soak in room temperature water for 24 hours before sowing. Sow seeds 0.25-0.5 inch deep in darkness on moist substrate. Maintain cool temperatures (55-65°F / 13-18°C) and high humidity during germination. Keep constant moisture but avoid waterlogging. Once seedlings emerge with first true leaves, gradually expose to light and harden off for 4-5 weeks before transplanting to permanent location. Support with trellis as plants develop tendrils. Pinch growing tips when seedlings reach 6 inches to encourage bushier growth and more flowers.
