Description
Solanum lycopersicum ‘German Pink’ is a renowned heirloom beefsteak tomato variety valued for its exceptionally large fruits and rich, well-balanced flavor. The indeterminate plants are vigorous and productive, commonly reaching 1.8 to 2.4 meters in height, and require staking or caging to support the heavy fruit load. The tomatoes are large, smooth, and slightly flattened, with pink to rose-colored skin and juicy, tender flesh that is mildly sweet and low in acidity. This variety is especially prized for fresh slicing, sandwiches, and salads.
‘German Pink’ performs best in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil with consistent watering to ensure even fruit development and reduce cracking. It thrives in warm, sunny growing conditions and has a relatively long season to maturity.
Sow seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last expected frost date. Transplant outdoors only after all danger of frost has passed and nighttime temperatures consistently remain above 12°C – 14°C. In mild or frost-free climates, seeds can be started from late winter to early spring for optimal production.
