Germination Guide

Viola x Wittrockiana Cv Bunny Ears ( english )

They can be sown directly in the garden or indoors and transplanted later, which is considerably safer.

*** the seeds of this species benefit and germinate with more uniformity when cold stratified for the period of 4 - 6 weeks.

Sowing:
Use good quality substrate, free of pathogens, light and porous.

Arrange the seeds on the substrate surface and cover them lightly.

Your seed should be kept in a well-lit place, but without direct sunlight; so that you can maintain the necessary humidity and heat during the germination phase, you can cover it with transparent plastic and fix it to your seedbed with an elastic band or use a container (plastic pot) for planting with a transparent lid (simulating a greenhouse).

Note: I advise spray irrigation, as small seeds can fail when displaced by the weight of the water.

Germination happens more quickly after the stratification mentioned above, and then when the temperature offered oscillates around 18º / 24º c.

Cultivation:
They tolerate a wide variety of soils, but it is convenient to add some fertilizer at the time of their transplant to the final location. Moist and well-drained soils.

In warmer areas and regions it is advisable to plant in half shade, in cooler or colder regions they can be planted in full sun.

Removing floral heads and dead branches will help to promote more flowers, keeping the plant always looking elegant.
