Moderate
Flacourtia jangomas (Indian Coffee Plum) is a dioecious deciduous tree native to tropical Asia, producing edible cherry-sized fruits with pleasant acidic flavor widely used in South Asian cuisine. Seeds benefit significantly from pre-treatment with 48-hour cold water soaking, which enhances germination to approximately 81%. This species is moderately easy to propagate from seed and adapts well to tropical and subtropical climates.

Additional notes
Seed soaking is the recommended pre-treatment. Seeds are prone to rot; substrate must be well-draining and kept moist but not wet
Substrate & Container
Recommended substrate
Well-draining loamy soil mix with forest soil and decomposed cow dung at 3:1 ratio
Recommended container
Perforated plastic tray or pot with drainage holes; can cover with plastic wrap or glass to maintain moisture
Growing Tips
Keep soil well-draining to prevent seed rot; maintain warm temperatures (16-28°C, ideally 22°C) throughout germination. Use a heat mat if ambient temperatures are below this range. Avoid overwatering—water only when top soil layer begins to dry. Cover trays with plastic or glass to maintain moisture and warmth. Remove coverage after sprouting to acclimate seedlings. Seeds germinate within 3-4 weeks. Repot once two true leaves emerge. Note: Plant requires both male and female specimens for fruit production; sex cannot be determined from seed.
