A large, very vigorous, deciduous climbing plant, originally native to the central and eastern U.S.A. but widely cultivated elsewhere in temperate climates as an ornamental for its gorgeous red, trumpet-shaped flowers. Especially in hot climates its growth can be rampant and it can quickly invade a garden. To keep it in check, prune back severely and reduce all side shoots to 5-10 cm in late winter before new growth appears. Suitable for USDA Zones 4 to 10.
