Description

Taxodium in greek means remembering teixos (taxus), in reference to the trees of small needles in the state of louisiana.

Calvo cipreste (taxodiun distichum var. Distichum) is a conifer of great ecological and economic importance.

It is a member of the cupressaceae family, which also includes ciprestes, sequíias, thuias and zimbros.

The cypress of the lagoon is found at low altitude from sea level, lagoon margins, in the swamp and along the water courses in virginia, north carolina, south carolina, florida, georgia, alabama, mississipi and in lousiana.

The most volume of taxodium distichum var. Imbricatum is known as: the senator and also called of siberian cypress, with the speculative age of 3.500 years; it was fireed in january 2012 by a local dweller in florida.

These conifers, with high and archaeed trunks emerging from shadow, black and swamp waters, with the crowns covered by spanish moss, are a characteristic marcante and generally associated to the south of the united states.
