Description
Ficus religiosa is a large, long-lived deciduous or semi-evergreen tree admired for its cultural, spiritual, and ornamental significance. It typically reaches 20 to 30 meters in height, forming a broad, spreading crown with distinctive heart-shaped leaves that have a long, tapering tip and gently flutter in the wind. Small figs appear in pairs along the branches and serve as a valuable food source for birds and wildlife. Native to the Indian subcontinent, it thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, showing strong drought tolerance once established. Revered as the tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment, the Sacred Fig is often planted near temples, parks, and large gardens.
