Description
Ensete glaucum is a striking ornamental banana species native to Southeast Asia and the Himalayas. It features large, paddle-shaped, bluish-green leaves and a thick, waxy pseudostem with a glaucous (bluish-white) sheen that gives the plant its distinctive look.
This fast-growing perennial can reach up to 6 meters in height, creating a lush, tropical appearance in gardens or landscapes. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers rich, moist, well-drained soil.
Though it produces banana-like fruits, they are not edible. Ensete glaucum is often grown as an ornamental centerpiece in tropical and subtropical regions or as a container plant in cooler climates. It can tolerate brief periods of cold but should be protected from frost.
