Hakea laurina, commonly known as the pincushion hakea, is a small to medium-sized evergreen tree or shrub native to southwestern Australia. It is highly valued for its striking and unusual flowers that appear from autumn to winter. These flowers are globular, with a deep red “cushion” from which many long, white to cream-colored styles protrude, giving them a distinct pincushion appearance. The plant has dense, bluish-green, lance-shaped leaves.
